What is SLAM? GPS vs SLAM.

                                                    What is SLAM?

In computational geometric and robotics SLAM is stands for simultaneous location and mapping which is use for constructing or updating a map of an unknown environment. This can be done using range of algorithm that simultaneously localize and map the object.

For Ex :- When we are at unknown place with full dark and to escape from that we have to find the exit but we have to find the exit but we are unfamiliar with doors, walls ,table present there. So what we will do is we will takes some small steps to analyze or to make map of rooms by understanding the positions of object in it , By hit and trial we will be exit.

                                               What is GPS

GPS stands for Global positioning system which is based on radio navigation system and this technology we all have used while travelling. The GPS provides location velocity and time synchronization.

                                              SLAM vs GPS

If we talk who is better, then we have to go to on Applications of both.     SLAM  is use for small area (less than meters) , with high accuracy because this technology is used for self driving cars where accuracy is necessary. While for GPS is for long distance (in kilometers) and precision in GPS  can lightly be neglected. Both are useful from their application perspective .
